Does the judgment decide compensation now?
No. This judgment only dealt with whether manufacturers may be responsible for using unlawful
“cheat devices” in the sample vehicles. In other words, it focused on whether the manufacturers
may be legally at fault (liability). The next stage is to assess the losses, including how much
compensation may be payable.
There is a further trial scheduled for October 2026. This will consider issues in relation to
Quantum, including how compensation should be calculated and how much may be awarded.
That trial will look at certain legal causes of action, including whether the manufacturers may
have breached their contracts with customers or failed to comply with legal requirements
(known as “statutory duties”). Additional trials are expected in the future to deal with the
remaining legal issues.
In the meantime, we will continue working to resolve the case and secure compensation for
clients through settlement discussions.
